Taking a walk

Discovering the environment

The Loire by bicycle

This is a magnificent route along the Loire, which covers six different départements (Loire-Atlantique, Maine-et-Loire...), and uncovers six cities (Orléans, Blois, Tours, Saumur, Angers and Nantes). Depart from the train station in Angers for a 30 km bicycle-only course, wandering near four outstanding sites (Maine’s towpath, the old town in Angers, the slate quarries in Trélazé, and finally the Maine banks, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site). This course makes a halt at Lac de Maine, an opportunity to take a breath. Please note that Ethic Etapes and the Lac de Maine campground are open to bicycle tourists. The House of Environment

Built at La Corne de Cerf, inside Lac de Maine theme park, the House of Environment acts towards the respect of environment, the safeguarding of exhausting natural resources, the management of fragile environmental conditions... Its bio garden and expositions are freely open to everyone. Mainstream and school animations are organised all year long. Learn more

The ornithological sanctuary

Some 235 winged species are listed on Lac de Maine. This ornithological richness can be explained by the diversity of the sites (river banks, deep waters...). You will probably not let the grey herons get past you without noticing : with their almost 6-feet wingspan, they can’t be missed. This area is one of their favourites reproduction sites. The Birds Protection League (LPO) often proposes thematic outings. Learn more : www.lpo-anjou.org
